yorkshireevenpost.co.uk reports that Noah Okafor has been named in Switzerland’s 2026 World Cup squad, handing the injured Leeds United forward a timely lift before the Premier League finale.
The 25-year-old, who joined from AC Milan last summer, has eight goals and one assist in 28 league games, with 19 starts and nine outings off the bench.
He returned from a 17-month international exile earlier this year and was back in the March squad, although he did not feature. The fallout with coach Murat Yakin had been addressed, and he said his lack of minutes was precautionary after a hamstring recovery.
He then found form in spring, scoring three times, including a match-winning brace at Old Trafford. The double delivered Leeds’ first top-flight win there since 1981 and earned Performance of the Year at last night’s awards. He also registered an assist and struck against Burnley in May.
A calf issue kept Okafor out of the 1-1 draw at Tottenham and Sunday’s 1-0 win over Brighton. He remains a doubt for Sunday’s trip to West Ham, and with a World Cup place secure he is highly unlikely to be rushed back.
Switzerland open Group B against Qatar, then Bosnia and Herzegovina, before facing Canada. Okafor is the third Leeds player confirmed, joining Gabriel Gudmundsson with Sweden and Ao Tanaka with Japan.
