Jude Bellingham’s brace completed England’s turnaround to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup for the first time in eight years with a 2-1 victory over dark horses Norway.

Landslaget took a shock lead through Andreas Schjelderup’s shot-turned-cross after Harry Kane was dispossessed on halfway, despite his claims of a foul, before Bellingham took Anthony Gordon’s cross under his spell and brilliantly fired into the bottom left.

Thomas Tuchel made numerous changes in the second half and into extra time, with Morgan Rogers proving one of the key additions as the follow up from his long-range effort following a corner was slotted home by the Real Madrid midfielder.

Norway hit the crossbar midway through the second half courtesy of Brentford centre back Kristoffer Ajer’s powerful header leaving Jordan Pickford well beaten, as the Everton shot-stopper became his country’s most capped World Cup player on his 18th appearance.

They also saw a goal to put them 2-1 up in the tie chalked off just before the hour mark for Erling Haaland’s push on Elliot Anderson, resulting in a retaking of the Scandanavian’s corner since the ball had not yet been put back into active play prior to the foul.

Substitute Djed Spence impressed coming off the bench to take the place of Nico O’Reilly, and was awarded a penalty by referee Clément Turpin only for the Frenchman to reverse his decision on the recommendation of the video assistant refreree.

England switched to a back five to contain the Norwegians deeper into extra time, with star striker Haaland surprisingly withdrawn halfway through the additional 30 minutes before Tuchel’s side held on for a memorably win inspired by Bellingham.

It puts England within one game of a first World Cup final since 1966, the year in which their one and only triumph came, with many fans viewing this tournament as England’s best chance to end six decades of hurt and win a second World Cup.

The winner of Argentina vs Swizterland in the last quarter-final of the 2026 World Cup will meet England in the semi-final, set to take place on Wednesday 15th of June.
