Norwich City have appointed Philippe Clement as their new head coach, signing the former Rangers boss on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
The 51-year-old manager steps in after Liam Manning was sacked following just 17 games in charge. Manning’s departure came after a 2-1 defeat to Leicester City at Carrow Road on 8 November, leaving Norwich second from bottom in the Championship.
It’s been a tough start to the season for the Canaries, who have just nine points from 15 games and have lost all eight of their home matches across league and cup competitions.
Clement will take his first training session on Tuesday and will be in the dugout for Norwich’s trip to Birmingham on Saturday.
The Belgian coach has been out of work since leaving Rangers in February. He left Ibrox with the club 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and with 11 games to go, while also reaching the last 16 of the Europa League.
Speaking to the club's media team, Clement said: "I’m really excited by this story and opportunity. I’ve known of this club for a long time and, whilst we are not in a good moment at this time, we are excited to work together with the players and staff to turn things around.
“Meeting with the owners and hearing some of their ambitions for the club, it really convinced me that this is the best move. They have big plans for the future but, of course, our job in the short term is to turn around the current situation and get everyone believing again.
“I also see the potential in the club and the group of players, and feel totally ready for the challenge ahead.”
