Norwich City have been linked with the signing of Deveron Fonville this summer

Norwich City have enjoyed a strong turnaround in form under Philippe Clement following his arrival as manager in November.

The Canaries have climbed out of relegation contention and into the top half of the Championship table in recent weeks.

The Norfolk outfit won seven of their last nine games prior to the March international break, bringing them to within nine points of the play-offs with only seven games remaining.

Norwich are now also 15 points clear of the relegation zone, with the threat of falling into League One gone due to this excellent run of results.

Clement will now have one eye on the summer transfer window, as he looks to build a team that could potentially compete for promotion next season.

And if they can keep up this form over the final weeks of this campaign, perhaps the club could even earn a surprise top six finish.

Norwich City target Eredivisie defender

It has been reported by Dutch outlet Voetbal Primeur that Norwich are among the clubs tracking defender Deveron Fonville ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

It is believed that the Canaries are interested in the NEC Nijmegen player following his impressive form in the Eredivisie.

The centre-back has featured 23 times in the league this season, with the club chasing qualification for the Champions League.

However, Norwich are set to face stiff competition for his signature if they are to pursue him in the summer.

It is understood that clubs from the Bundesliga and Serie A are also interested in the 22-year-old, including Hoffenheim and Udinese.

Bayer Leverkusen have also been mentioned as a club keeping tabs on the Curacao international.

NEC Nijmegen completed the signing of Fonville last summer in a deal worth €850,000 (£735,000), but it remains to be seen how much they would be seeking for a transfer this year.

The defender has a contract with the Dutch side until June 2029, giving them plenty of leverage in any upcoming transfer talks.

Norwich are currently 10th in the Championship table, nine points behind sixth place Southampton as we approach the run in.

Clement’s side will return to action following the March international break looking to maintain their recent winning form.

Next up for the Canaries is a home clash against relegation-threatened Portsmouth on 3 April in a 3pm kick-off.

Deveron Fonville signing would be ambitious for Norwich

Fonville is attracting a lot of interest with his performances in the Eredivisie this season, and it remains to be seen whether he’d be willing to make the move to the Championship.

The opportunity to compete in the Bundesliga or Serie A could prove more tempting, but Norwich may be a better route to consistent minutes next year, should he move from NEC Nijmegen.

There’s no doubt he’d be a potentially exciting signing for Clement’s side, as he has taken the step up from third tier football to the top flight quite well, and he’s playing a role in a strong campaign for a typical mid-table side.

Given he is also only 22, there is also plenty of room for him to still improve as well, so he could become quite a valuable addition to the squad.
