Norwich City have been linked with making a move for promising West Brom midfielder Harry Whitwell this summer.

This comes from a report by journalist and Full Throstle writer Steve Tudgay, who details the Canaries are interested in luring the midfielder to Carrow Road due to Whitwell having only a year left on his current contract at The Hawthorns.

Albion boss James Morrison has reiterated his intentions to keep hold of the 20-year-old and for him to be firmly in his first-team plans, but the Baggies may be forced into a difficult decision to gain some cash from a sale, if a new deal can’t be agreed.

Albion recently did a similar act with Austrian midfielder Souleyman Mandey, who rejected a new deal at The Hawthorns, leading to the club selling him to native club Grazer AK, where West Brom included a significant sell-on clause.

But this would be something that would hit West Brom so much harder, particularly when Whitwell is showing signs of blossoming and becoming a fan favourite in the blue and white stripes.

After coming through the youth ranks at The Hawthorns in 2024, Harry Whitwell has had to bide his time to get a chance to impress for the West Brom first-team, with time spent representing the Baggies at youth level in their Premier League 2 campaigns, while he spent the first half of last season on loan at Forest Green Rovers and cemented himself as one of the first names on the team sheet.

And last weekend, the 20-year-old put his name in lights for the Baggies in their romping 4-1 win over Rotherham United in the Carabao Cup, registering a goal and assist in the opening 45 minutes before being replaced at the break because of a knock.

Such an eye-catching display could well mean he has done enough to earn a start, fittingly, against the linked Norwich City on the opening day of the new Championship season, but the Canaries have no doubt been impressed with what they saw from the midfielder at the New York Stadium.

As per a report from Full Throstle writer and journalist Steve Tudgay, Norwich City are interested in making a move for West Brom midfielder Harry Whitwell during this summer transfer window.

It has been reported that the Canaries are one of several clubs keeping tabs over the 20-year-old, with interest no doubt sparking following his heroics over the weekend in the League Cup.

His contract situation is also bound to have played a part, with Whitwell entering the final year of his contract at The Hawthorns.

It does leave the Baggies in a difficult position, with the club at risk of losing the talented midfielder on a free transfer so they may just have to bite the bullet and sanction a sale now to boost the coffers.

Any sale would be a bitter blow for boss James Morrison to take, who confirmed to BBC WM Sport after their victory over Rotherham United that Whitwell is firmly in his plans for this upcoming season.

While against admittedly poor opposition, West Brom looked mightily impressive in their first competitive outing of the new season, playing with intensity and a high tempo that saw them notch four goals and have a comfortable afternoon in Yorkshire.

Not to mention spearheading that was the presence of the talented Harry Whitwell, who showcased what he is all about.

Whitwell was impressive in linking up with the likes of Isaac Price, Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Aune Heggebo, while he had trickery and skill up his sleeve that often bamboozled the Rotherham backline.

Such an enjoyable display was capped off with him notching his first professional goal for the club, while he also claimed the assist as his scuffed effort was cleverly backheeled into the net by summer signing Morgan for their opening goal.

Whitwell seems to have the game that can take the Championship by storm this coming season, so the Baggies have to do all they can to tie him down to a new contract and allow him to continue his footballing journey in the Black Country.

Albion desperately missed dynamism and a creative spark in midfield last term that contributed to their relegation battle, so keeping hold of a star like Whitwell could go a long way in seeing the club score enough goals to get them back into the promotion mix.

Too often, Albion have let go of their young stars to make a quick buck, so it’s time they stood firm and let one of the biggest talents on their books transform themselves into a second tier superstar.
