Members of the entourage of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford have “played down” suggestions that he could be on his way to Como, reports Fabrizio Romano.
United are looking to offload Rashford, who admitted in a bombshell interview last month that he is ready for a new challenge, away from Old Trafford.
The Red Devils ideally want to complete a permanent sale of their Carrington academy graduate but a January loan deal appears to be the most likely outcome.
A number of clubs in Europe are believed to be keen on temporarily signing Rashford until the end of the season. His brother and agent was recently in Milan to hold exploratory talks with AC Milan chiefs over a potential transfer.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio recently revealed that monied Serie A side Como – managed by former Arsenal and Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas – had “entered the race” for Rashford.
Di Marzio claimed that Como were hoping to use the presence of Raphael Varane – Rashford’s former United teammate – to convince him about a switch to Stadio Comunale G. Sinigaglia.
Their bid to land him is also bolstered by the presence of Rashford’s England colleague Dele Alli, who is at the club on trial, hoping to land a full-time contract after several years of injury that have kept him away from action.
However, according to Fabrizi Romano, it’s unlikely that Rashford will move to Como.
Romano wrote on X, “Sources close to Marcus Rashford play down reports/links with Serie A side Como.”
“No talks taking place or planned and not an option under consideration for Marcus/his camp.”
“Talks took place with AC Milan, Juventus, Borussia Dortmund and more will follow.”
Como are currently sitting 16th in Serie A, having won only four of their first 18 matches. However, they have a game in hand over their rivals and winning that could lift the club to at least 12th place.
