Pedri Gonzalez is the heart and soul of Barcelona’s midfield, and the past two seasons have slowly and surely seen him reach the peak of his powers.
The Canary Islander has become synonymous with the club over the years and is an undisputed starter for both club and country. He is even widely regarded as the best player on the planet in his position.
Injury struggles limited Pedri’s growth during his initial years at Barcelona, but he has enjoyed more continuity over the past two seasons and bloomed into the player he is today.
Speaking to the media in a recent interview (h/t SPORT), the midfielder firmly admitted that he would never consider leaving Barcelona and that he wished to play for the club for as long as he can keep going.
“I’m not going to change Barça for anything. I can listen to anyone, but for me, Barça is the best there is. It’s what I’ve lived and dreamed of since I was little, I’m not going to change it now,” said Pedri.
“It may seem like a movie, but my grandfather founded a Barcelona club and that’s where I watched the games. Now, I’m the one playing. It’s a little incredible, but it’s the story of a dream come true,” he added, adding a personal touch.

He then spoke of how it felt to always have clubs lining up to sign him and how it did not affect his resolve in any capacity.
“When they tell you that there are other interested teams you always listen, but inside me I know that it is Barça where I want to stay.”
“I’ve lived in Barça since I was little and I’m not going to change it,” he added.
He then spoke about his move to Catalonia and how it transpired, saying,
“There are several clubs interested, but as soon as I tell you the name of a club, you will not let me say more. He first said Barcelona, and I told him: ‘Okay, you don’t need to say more, I want to go to Barça.'”
Pedri also admitted to the competitions he dreams of winning as a player, saying,
“A World Cup and a Champions League. These are two titles that everyone wants to have in their showcases.”
Pedri then commented in depth about the type of player he is, his commitment, desire to improve, and non-tolerance for mistakes.
“[I always prioritise] the team’s results. [But] every year I say it, I know I have to do it [improve on goals and assists.. I must become aware of what I have to do to evolve.”

He then admitted that he prioritizes going through his videos and finding tactical enhancements over working in the gym, although he also admitted that physical training was important.
“[I like] watching my own games when they show me the videos with and without the ball more than going to the gym, but it is obvious that you have to maintain a routine.”
The player then admitted how much it mattered to him to keep the ball and control the game and how he hates losing a duel.
“I am competitive and do not like to lose even in the play. I always want to go for the biggest title, but Gavi is more competitive than me. When he loses, he gets angrier than I do.”
Finally, he was asked about his personal life and the challenges that came with being a celebrity.
“That things are said that are not true about me. You can’t answer everything because if you do you’ll be defending yourself all day, but it’s something I don’t like,” he said.
