Nottingham Forest are waiting on an assessment of Jair Cunha after the centre-back left clutching his arm in the 50th minute of a 5-0 win at Sunderland.
According to Nottingham Post, the result left the Reds eight points clear of the bottom three before West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur play today.
A Trai Hume own goal set them on their way in the first half. Chris Wood, Morgan Gibbs-White and Igor Jesus then scored three times in seven minutes. Elliot Anderson added the fifth in second-half added time.
Head coach Vitor Pereira said the defender will be assessed, noting concern about losing players in the same position and stressing any prognosis will come from medical staff.
Jair started with Murillo out after a suspected hamstring injury sustained in last weekend’s 4-1 win over Burnley. Murillo missed the trip and is expected to sit out next week’s Europa League semi-final first leg against Aston Villa. If Jair is also sidelined, Pereira could be short in defence.
Morato replaced Jair and would be in line to start at the City Ground next week if his team-mates are unavailable. Youngster Zach Abbott is another option and has impressed this season.
Pereira praised the spirit in the camp and the backing from travelling supporters, saying players and fans felt united even during difficult spells.
