Nottingham Forest have sent 20-year-old wide player Eric da Silva Moreira on a season-long loan to Eredivisie side Excelsior Rotterdam, as part of a long-term plan to integrate him into their first team.

The club said in a statement that he had a blend of first-team and B Team opportunities since arriving on Trentside, and that he was in Oliver Glasner’s squad throughout this summer’s pre-season. It also wished him well for the year ahead.

The Germany youth international joined Forest from St Pauli in 2024, having grown up in Hamburg. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Rio Ave in Portugal, returning in January due to limited minutes.

Excelsior finished 13th in the Eredivisie last term after promotion the previous year. They opened this campaign with a 4-0 win over Cambuur, then lost 2-1 to PSV Eindhoven on Saturday.

Da Silva Moreira could debut at home to Sparta Rotterdam on Saturday. He will hope to return to the City Ground next summer with the experience to bolster his prospects.

Forest are expected to add a right-back before the window closes next Tuesday night. They have been linked with Javi Rueda of Celta Vigo.

Young defenders Zach Abbott and Tyler Bindon have also been linked with loans, to Preston North End and Watford respectively.
