The outlay has not brought improvement on the pitch, and for the third time in four Premier League seasons they are battling relegation.

The payments are £1m down on the £13m recorded in the previous 12 months, placing Forest in the lower end of the Premier League by this measure.

Forest’s exact total of £12,210,822 ranks 16th in the division. Below them, Fulham spent £11m, Everton £10m and Burnley £7m.

Chelsea led the league on £65m, with Aston Villa next on £38m. Manchester City and Liverpool followed on £37m and £34m respectively.
