Nottingham Forest have reinstated goalkeeper Matz Sels to their Europa League squad before Thursday’s last 16 first leg against FC Midtjylland at the City Ground.
The club said in a statement that Sels has been reinstated to the UEFA A list after a groin injury, with Stefan Ortega having taken his place for the play-off ties against Fenerbahçe.
Ortega started both games against Fenerbahçe, then sustained a calf problem in the second leg. Sels made an earlier than expected comeback, starting at Brighton and Hove Albion and featuring in last Wednesday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City, the first point of Vitor Pereira’s tenure.
With Ortega sidelined, Sels agreed to play despite needing more days to be fully fit, a decision taken jointly with Pereira and the medical department.
Kick-off on Thursday is 8pm. The return leg takes place in Denmark next week.
Ortega arrived in the winter window after summer signing John Victor suffered a knee injury against Aston Villa in January and required surgery, and he is expected to miss the rest of the season. Forest remain without striker Chris Wood and full-back Nicolo Savona because of knee issues, with Savona facing a fight to feature again this term, while it is hoped Wood could return next month.
