Nottingham Forest appear ready to stand firm on Elliot Anderson’s price after Manchester City returned with a second offer. An initial approach was turned down last week.
According to The Athletic, City’s latest proposal was £106m up front, rising beyond £120m with add-ons, and Forest want any fixed fee to top the £125m that set a Premier League record last summer.
Talks are ongoing, with a belief a deal eventually gets done. It is increasingly a question of when, and how much for, rather than if he leaves. Manchester United admire him but are thought to have been priced out, and the 23-year-old is understood to prefer the Etihad.
Forest are not under pressure to sell, Anderson is contracted until 2029, and his value could rise if he enjoys a good World Cup with England. He started Wednesday’s 3-0 friendly win over Costa Rica in Florida as preparations were completed.
Before the break, head coach Vitor Pereira said the club want to keep their best players but accepted the market is hard to control. He added that any major departure would need replacing.
City are believed to want any move wrapped up before England’s opener against Croatia on 17 June. The Premier League window opens on Monday, 15 June, with a deadline of 11pm on one September.
