Nottingham Forest may soon have a hole in midfield, with Elliot Anderson edging closer to Manchester City.

According to Nottingham Post, the clubs held fresh talks on Wednesday and a third bid could follow after two failed offers, the latest above £120m. Forest value the 23-year-old at about a British-record £130m and he has three years left on his contract.

Forest have already scoped replacements, with Tottenham Hotspur teenager Lucas Bergvall linked earlier this week.

Evangelos Marinakis would underline his negotiating clout if City meet the price, having personally overseen talks and rejected the second bid. Spurs saw that resolve during their failed move for Morgan Gibbs-White last summer.

Nicolas Dominguez could profit if a newcomer needs time to settle, his reliability offers cover after winter plans to add a midfielder stalled.

Morgan Gibbs-White’s importance would be further underlined if Anderson goes. He dragged Forest to safety and, despite missing England’s World Cup squad, should start the new campaign fired up.

For Ibrahim Sangare, an exit would break up a partnership that helped him shine after a testing start. He delivered the level expected when Forest paid PSV Eindhoven £30m in 2023, so finding the right foil is vital.

Vitor Pereira would feel the loss, although he has said no individual is bigger than the club. Anderson led the division last season for duels won, possession regains and touches, with 297, 306 and 3,300, so replacing that would need a collective effort.
