The summer transfer window is open and a pivotal few months await Nottingham Forest, with Manchester City’s pursuit of Elliot Anderson set to shape the agenda before the 11pm deadline on 1 September.
According to Nottingham Post, City saw an initial bid rejected, then returned last week with an improved offer worth more than £120m. A British-record fee, above the £125m Liverpool paid Newcastle United for Alexander Isak, is likely needed for Forest to even contemplate a sale, and any agreement would be on their terms.
City’s interest appears undimmed and the saga might run through the World Cup. The FA Cup winners had hoped to conclude a deal before England’s opener on Wednesday, but time is short. Forest feel no pressure, and the 23-year-old’s value could rise if he excels on the global stage.
Head coach Vitor Pereira wants minimal tweaks, keeping the core and adding a handful of signings. He is targeting two strong options in every position without inflating the squad, and any key departure would be replaced. He also prefers most business early to maximise preparation for 2026/27.
Midfield is a key focus, with January checks including Inter’s David Frattesi and Celtic’s Arne Engels, and conversations have continued. A goalkeeper is also on the agenda, with Stefan Ortega and Angus Gunn set to leave when contracts expire this month, so reliable cover is required behind No.1 Matz Sels.
A major overhaul is not expected, though fringe exits are possible. Goalkeeper John Victor has not fully convinced and has been linked with a move back to Brazil. Full-back Nicolo Savona is wanted by Atalanta.
