Even though Barcelona suffered a defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, Ferran Torres provided a positive note for the team by keeping his scoring form intact.

Competing with Robert Lewandowski for the starting centre-forward spot under Hansi Flick, Torres scored his fifth goal of the season in just nine matches, marking his third goal in his last three starts across all competitions.

This season, Flick has shown confidence in the Spaniard, and Torres is responding in style.

For what it is worth, judging by the look of things, it is safe to say that the former Manchester City forward is ahead of Lewandowski in the pecking order for the centre-forward position.

The competition for places within the team is strong, but at the moment, Flick is giving Ferran all the confidence in the world. And he is responding with positive numbers

Impressive stats and on-field impact

So far this season, Torres has scored five goals in 545 minutes, averaging a goal every 109 minutes.

Across the seven LaLiga matchdays played, he has featured in all matches, starting every game except for the clash against Real Sociedad, when Flick rested him ahead of the key PSG fixture.

In the Champions League, he did not start against Newcastle, as Lewandowski took the spot.

Against PSG, though, Torres played the full 90 minutes, partnering with Lewandowski in the final stages alongside Lamine Yamal.

He managed two shots on target, converting one into Barcelona’s goal in the 19th minute following an assist from Marcus Rashford.

While he had slightly fewer shots than Yamal, his efficiency was higher, with one of his three attempts resulting in a goal. He also created two scoring chances, matching teammates Pedri and Yamal in chance creation.

Torres continues to show that he is a predator in the box and determined to secure the number 9 role at Barcelona.

Despite fierce competition and occasional rotation, his sharpness and ability to convert opportunities make him a key asset for Flick’s side.
