Reports surfaced this week suggesting that if the Hammers were relegated to the Championship, neither the club nor Nuno would owe compensation if the other party decided to terminate his contract.

The Portuguese signed a three-year deal to take over from Graham Potter in September, becoming their fourth permanent managerial appointment in six years.

While it has been reported that the Irons are keen to keep hold of Nuno regardless of whether they stay up, the former Wolves and Nottingham Forest head coach could yet decide to move on at the end of the campaign, with the clause allowing for a clean break from the terms of his contract.

Despite an upturn in form over the last few months, West Ham found themselves back in the relegation zone last weekend after Tottenham’s 2-1 win away to Aston Villa.

With the Hammers now one point from safety with just three games to go, Nuno says his focus is solely on keeping his side in the Premier League, and there has been no consideration given to his future.

“I don't have one second to think about next season, it's so demanding what we have, the challenge, especially the game on Sunday is what we have to focus on,” Nuno said on Friday.

“I don't have enough energy to think about what is ahead.”

Asked whether the club’s board also considered his future a matter for the end of the season, Nuno reiterated that everyone’s focus was on Sunday’s game at home to league leaders Arsenal.

“I think all the club, all the staff, the board, the players, everybody, the fans, we have our mission in hands, it's about Sunday, just focus on Sunday.”
