Nuri Sahin reserved some praise for Gio Reyna after the attacking midfielder celebrated his comeback from injury during Borussia Dortmund's 4-0 win over SC Freiburg.
Gio Reyna has had to endure a nightmare few seasons with a spate of injuries forcing him to spell considerable time on the sidelines. His latest injury setback arrived in September when he picked up a groin injury while on international duty for the United States. After months of toil, Reyna is finally fit again.
The 22 year old made his return to action on Saturday as he came off the bench during Borussia Dortmund's 4-0 win over SC Freiburg. And after the game, BVB head coach Nuri Sahin had special praise for the efforts of the attacking midfielder. "We're happy that they're [injured players] back, that we can bring them on, that they're in training," Sahin said during his post-match press conference. "Gio trained brilliantly this week. It's important to get training minutes and, if possible, to get as many minutes as possible into the legs. I'm glad they're all back and I'm waiting for the others [to return]."
If Reyna can overcome his injury struggles, he can undoubtedly become a useful squad option for Borussia Dortmund amid the team's gruelling fixture list.
For a while it looked like Gio Reyna's future would lie away from Borussia Dortmund. But those in charge at the club decided not to part ways with him in the summer transfer window. So having him fit again will come as a big boost amid the team's lack of squad depth. And the hope will be that he can establish himself in the team in the coming weeks.
