Now, New York City FC is once again being linked with a blockbuster move. A few days ago, we reported on the club CEO's desire to sign Christian Pulisic.

Well, this time, the rumor centers on the club's interest in signing one of the players responsible for the USMNT's elimination from the World Cup.

NYCFC dreams of signing Romelu Lukaku

That's right, the Pigeons dream of signing Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku, who currently plays for SSC Napoli in Serie A.

However, I have some bad news. Clubs from European soccer are also looking to sign the former Manchester United forward.

According to Tuttosport, the MLS club is not the only one interested in the veteran. Ajax and AS Monaco have also joined the race.

There have also been rumors linking him with Fenerbahce, but the signing of Mason Greenwood has limited the club's interest, while the rumors involving Besiktas have already cooled.

With that being said, the aforementioned outlet reported that there are no official offers from any club. However, any deal will depend on Lukaku agreeing to reduce his salary, which at Napoli is around €12 million gross per season.

Realistically, the Belgian striker’s salary is far beyond what New York City FC can afford. Even with a significant pay cut, his wages would likely remain near $10 million.

If the Pigeons were willing to pay those numbers, they would likely have to sacrifice other plans, such as a potential move for Christian Pulisic.

Whether or not Lukaku arrives in New York, the Belgian striker will play for a team that is sitting in 8th place in the Eastern Conference and that desperately needs a striker who can give their attack that extra spark.
