Erling Haaland and Orjan Nyland delivered at either end as Norway beat Brazil 2-1 on Sunday to reach a first World Cup quarter-final. Haaland struck twice and Nyland produced a string of big saves.

L'Équipe notes the pair produced near-perfect displays. Sorloth was involved before an offside pass to Berg in the third minute, then Nyland saved Guimaraes's 14th-minute penalty. He also dealt with a Martinelli centre on 30 minutes and denied Vinicius on 40.

Haaland's running created the opening for an Odegaard attempt at 45+3. Schjelderup arrived for the second half and later supplied a fine cross and a neat pass for the goals. Nyland continued, unsettling Endrick on 59 and saving Rayan's half-volley on 62.

Haaland finally broke through with a well-taken header on 79. Nyland pulled off a superb reflex stop from a looping ball on 85, before Haaland smashed in a left-footed second on 90 to make it 2-0.

Neymar converted a 90+10 penalty, which Nyland could not keep out, to reduce the deficit. Vinicius repeatedly stretched Norway but met the goalkeeper at key moments. Danilo was culpable on both goals, Gabriel lost Haaland for the opener and Casemiro lacked influence despite winning that late spot-kick. Sorloth toiled out of position and was replaced at the break.
