The Nou Mestalla has reached an agreement with Octopus Energy as ‘Sustainable Founding Partner’.
Through this alliance, the global company becomes a strategic partner to lead the energy transition through the installation and management of smart systems on the roof of the stadium, which will become a green energy lung, a singularity that will help consolidate the Nou Mestalla as a symbol of pride and innovation for the city and as an authentic environmental benchmark.
Following the solar energy project that powers the Ciudad Deportiva with a self-consumption system and 30% solar energy since 2024, Octopus Energy and Valencia CF now take another step forward in this relationship built on a real commitment to the community and to the future of Valencia CF and Valencia, in order to jointly accelerate the transition towards renewable energy.
As ‘Sustainable Founding Partner’ of the Nou Mestalla, Octopus Energy will install solar panels on the roof as well as charging points for electric vehicles around the stadium. The aim is to supply the stadium with clean energy and power all its activities 365 days a year, not only on matchdays, while also promoting a responsible mobility model for the community.
The energy company will also manage each watt of green energy through a smart system to optimise performance and reduce environmental impact, turning the Nou Mestalla into a model of international energy efficiency and a clear example of how to carry out an energy transformation process with local impact. The solar energy system that Octopus Energy will install on the stadium roof will prevent the emission of 185 tonnes of CO2.
Javier Solís, General Director of Valencia CF: “With Octopus Energy at our side, the Nou Mestalla will be a benchmark in energy efficiency and in the use of green energy. This alliance as Founding Partner represents much more than a sponsorship: it means adding a strategic partner that, from the beginning, will share our vision of the future and our commitment to sustainability. The installation of solar panels on the roof is a tangible example of how together we can generate value for the community by leading the energy transition in Valencia and setting a path towards a greener future.”
Roberto Giner, CEO of Octopus Energy Spain, comments: “For us it is an honour to take this step and become Founding Partner of Valencia CF at the Nou Mestalla, with which we will bring 100% renewable energy to a stadium that is and will be an icon of the city. It is a natural evolution in a relationship that was born two years ago when we became the Club’s sustainability partner, and together we have shown that the energy transition is played out above all off the pitch. Thanks to the work the team carried out with the self-consumption installation at the Ciudad Deportiva, we now reinforce our commitment to Valencia by making the Nou Mestalla an example of efficiency and respect for the planet. We want the fans, families and the whole Valencian community to feel that clean energy is also part of their club, because football has the power to bring sustainability closer to everyone.”
