FK Austria Wien have etched their names in the history books by winning their first ever ÖFB Frauen Cup title. The newly-crowned champions marked the special occasion of the tournament’s 50th final by beating final debutants Red Bull Salzburg to lift the trophy.
Austria Wien are triumphant at the third time of asking, following two missed chances against SKN St. Pölten in the 2024 and 2025 finals. Taking revenge from the last two final clashes, the capital side knocked out the defending and 11-time champions in a tense clash back in November 2025.
It was a milestone moment to celebrate the 50th final and a record crowd of 4,600 people were in support at the Wiener Sport-Club Stadion in Vienna. It marks the first time in more than a decade that the trophy has been won for the first time by a club.
Pal; Schöffel, Weiss, Schiechtl, Kirchberger, Triendl, Uka, Weilharter, Pfattner, Skorvankova, Wenninger (C).
Fischer; Laura Spinn, Crnoja, Greta Spinn, Illinger, Grabovac, Schirmbrand, Kobler Grünwald, Hamzic, Orkic (C).
Several early corners caused problems for Salzburg. Schöffel made several early penetrating runs down the right-hand side to cause defensive issues for Dusan Pavlovic’s side.
There was a tussle in the Salzburg box but a loose foot from Pfattner struck the head of goalkeeper Fischer and play was stopped for several minutes, taking some steam out of the match. Hamzic was able to stop an almost certain goal for Austria Wien on the half-hour mark.
Grobavoc was shown a yellow card for what seemed like a fair tackle on Schöffel. Referee Olivia Tschon assumingly wanted to get a lid on the rising tension between the two teams.
Neither side could find a definitive moment to stop the half-time whistle blowing with nothing to separate the two at 0-0.
The second half got underway at a steady pace with a 20-yard screaming effort from Pfattner that almost broke the deadlock for Austria Wien. The ball clattered the crossbar before bouncing out of play.
It took 52 minutes for the first goal to finally come when Katharina Schiechtl headed the ball cleanly past Fischer to take the lead. The following ten minutes saw Austria Wien sit back and swallow some pressure from the opposition. It marked the first time in this Cup run that Salzburg have conceded a goal.
There was another yellow for Salzburg as captain Orkic pulled a shirt in a desperate attempt to put a stop to some classy play from Kosovo international Modesta Uka. In the end, there was nothing Salzburg could to do to stop what was billed as the inevitable.
In dramatic fashion, there was a late sending off for Red Bull’s Fischer as she pulled down Strode outside of the box after being caught creeping up the pitch. It was a cynical attempt at stopping what would’ve been a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
Austria Wien lifted the 50th ÖFB Cup trophy in front of the record crowd, during a season that may well be their greatest in history. They currently sit top of the Frauen Bundesliga, saw themselves get to a European cup semi-final, and have now secured their first ÖFB Cup title.
Gratulation zum ersten Cup-Titel der Vereinsgeschichte, @FKAustriaWien-Frauen! 🤩👏🏼 _____ #FrauenCup–
Austria Wien goal-scorer Schiechtl was ecstatic after the match confessing how much winning meant.
“Unbelievable. I have goosebumps,” she said. “We left our hearts on the pitch. I’m incredibly happy — we’ve made history. Absolutely fantastic. We want everything now and will do everything we can to achieve this.”
Red Bull Salzburg manager Pavlovic gave his post-match thoughts after conceding the Cup to Wien.
“Today we saw why Austria Wien have been so dominant this season and have come so far both nationally and internationally. That makes me all the more proud of my team. How well and bravely we played, and only conceding the goal from a set piece at the end. I can’t fault the team. This setting was something special for all of women’s football in Austria. It was a special day and a special match.”
