Having fallen out of favour at Olympique de Marseille, Amine Harit (28) is on his way to Turkey.
The Moroccan international was loaned to Istanbul Basaksehir on Friday with an option to buy.
Harit joined Marseille on loan from the German side Schalke 04 in 2021, where he was previously named the Bundesliga Rookie of the Year in the 2017-18 season. He’d spent two seasons on loan at OM.
The club made a permanent move for him last November, and it was worth an estimated €5m. After making his 15th appearance for them last season, his obligation-to-buy clause was triggered.
He hadn’t played a single minute for them so far in this campaign and wasn’t registered by Roberto De Zerbi for the upcoming UEFA Champions League campaign. Marseille begin the league phase of that competition on Tuesday when they travel to the Santiago Bernabeu to face Real Madrid.
The French-born attacking midfielder had played his youth career at Paris Saint-Germain, Red Star and FC Nantes, among others. Before his move to Schalke, Harit featured for La Maison Jaune in the first team, making 30 appearances and scoring once during their 2016-17 campaign.
As a youngster, he helped the French Under-19 team win the UEFA European Championship in 2016.
Although he had a diminished role domestically in recent times, Harit played a significant part in their run to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in the 2023-24 season. The Moroccan was the top assist provider in that competition.
