La Liga giants Barcelona have secured a deal to keep hold of up-and-coming defender Patricio Pacífico for another 12 months.
This was confirmed by the Blaugrana through a statement across the club’s social media channels on Thursday, as follows:
‘FC Barcelona and Defensor Sporting Club have reached an agreement to extend the loan of Patricio Pacifico for another season, until the end of the 2026/27 season. The agreement includes maintaining the existing purchase option for the Uruguayan defender at the end of the season.’
Pacífico for his part linked up with Barcelona during the January transfer window, on a short-term loan from parent club Defensor Sporting in his home country of Uruguay.
After overcoming an early fitness problem, the 20-year-old soon established himself as a key figure in the starting XI of Juliano Belletti’s Barca Atlètic.
From here, however, Pacífico’s Blaugrana dreams appeared to have been permanently dashed, upon the central defender suffering an ACL tear.
But as alluded to above, the youngster evidently did enough during his short stint to prove his talents to those behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital, set to continue his development on Barca’s books for the duration of the 2026/27 campaign.
