La Liga champions Barcelona have this week announced a setback on the personnel front.

This comes amid confirmation that Frenkie de Jong is set for an incoming spell on the treatment table.

Barcelona are currently in the thick of preparations for a return to action this weekend, when the Blaugrana will set about extending their advantage atop the La Liga table in a meeting with Villarreal.

Hansi Flick’s squad, in turn, were put through their paces in a training session at the Ciutat Esportiva on Thursday morning.

And along the way, the aforementioned Frenkie de Jong suffered his latest injury blow…

As per a statement across Barcelona’s website and social media platforms:

‘First-team player Frenkie de Jong sustained an injury to the distal biceps of his right leg during this morning’s training session.’

An insight into the extent of De Jong’s impending absence has also been provided, with the former Ajax talent expected to miss ‘approximately five to six weeks’.
