Official: Barcelona confirm Gavi will undergo arthroscopic surgery | OneFootball

Amid concerns about his knee injury, FC Barcelona have officially announced that Gavi will be undergoing arthroscopy tomorrow.

The 21-year-old midfielder has been out of action since late August due to discomfort in his knee, and has been on conservative treatment from the club.

While there has been progress, it has not been enough for the injury to fully heal and as such, an arthroscopic review will be conducted tomorrow.

“First team player Pablo Páez Gavira (Gavi) underwent intense sports stress tests yesterday after completing conservative treatment for a radial injury to the internal meniscus in his right knee,” the statement read.

“The conclusions are that, to ensure the best recovery and return to competitive dynamics, Gavi will undergo an arthroscopic review tomorrow by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau, under the supervision of the Club’s Medical Services.”

“A new medical statement will be issued once the intervention is completed.”

Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that orthopaedic surgeons use to examine, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint using a small incision and a fibre-optic tube with a camera and light.

It has previously been suggested that Gavi could be sidelined for a little over a month following the procedure, but a better picture of the situation should emerge after the arthroscopy has been performed tomorrow.
