As was expected, FC Barcelona have issued an official statement confirming that key superstar Lamine Yamal has suffered a hamstring injury and his season is now over.
However, there is a silver lining as the 18-year-old sensation is expected to be available for the Spanish national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the summer.
“The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has an injury to the biceps femoris of his left leg,” the statement read.
“The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season and is expected to be available for the World Cup.”
Lamine suffered the injury during Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Celta Vigo last night, moments after he had scored the penalty late in the first half.
The 18-year-old La Masia graduate was immediately taken off by Hansi Flick and following medical tests conducted today, the initial fears have been confirmed.
Barcelona still have six matches left in the season, all of them in La Liga, and Lamine’s absence will come as a bitter blow. However, they are in a good position to lift the league title, having opened up a nine-point lead over Real Madrid.
As for Lamine, he will follow a conservative treatment and hope to recover in time for the summer’s World Cup in North America.
He is expected to join the La Roja camp on 30 May in Las Rozas, and the final squad list will be submitted to FIFA on 1 June.
Spain kick off their World Cup campaign on 15 June against Cape Verde in Atlanta, so he should have plenty of time to recover and no issues being available for that match.
