Earlier today, FIFPro, the global union for professional football players, announced the 2025 FIFPro Men’s World XI.

The FIFPro World XI has been in practice since 2009, with the organisation inviting all professional footballers to compose the best men’s and women’s teams of the year.

An initial 26-player nominee list was unveiled last week, after which the World XI has now been announced, comprising a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, and three forwards.

The final place in the World XI goes to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes, irrespective of the position.

Two Barcelona players feature

And, with the team now announced, FC Barcelona have two players representing the team in the squad.

Indeed, teenage superstar Lamine Yamal, who enjoyed a career-best year which saw him win a domestic treble with Barcelona, features in the attack of the 2025 FIFPro World XI.

The 18-year-old won the Kopa Trophy again and finished second in the Ballon d’Or rankings after going through a special season, and his presence in the World XI is not a surprise.

Meanwhile, Barcelona maestro Pedri also makes the cut after firmly establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the game, if not the best.

The Spaniard was a key piece of Hansi Flick’s domestic treble-winning team and is deserving of a spot in the World XI.

Barcelona had two more players in the running – Raphinha and Pau Cubarsi, but they did not make the final XI.

Gianluigi Donnarumma of Manchester City occupies the goalkeeping slot, while the defensive line is made of Virgil van Dijk (Liverpool), Achraf Hakimi and Nuno Mendes (both PSG).

Alongside Pedri, Jude Bellingham of Real Madrid, Cole Palmer (Chelsea), and PSG’s Vitinha make up the midfield unit in the FIFPro World XI.

As for the attacking unit, Lamine is paired up with the 2025 Ballon d’Or winner, Ousmane Dembele (PSG), and his France teammate Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid.
