Shortly before midnight in the UK on Monday, Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel’s loan to Tottenham Hotspur was finally confirmed. Negotiations stretched right up until the deadline as both sides ironed out the final details. Kicker confirms English media reports that the desire of Spurs to secure a purchase option from the Bundesliga club caused the delay.
Virtually all media sources confirm the existence of a €55m purchase option as part of the deal. Tel reached a career-high estimated market value of €50m in December 2023 in the midst of a season in which he would score 10 goals and contributed seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions under former Bayern trainer Thomas Tuchel.
Under Vincent Kompany this year, however, he’s played less of a role. Just one assists in 11 appearances across all comps has seen his estimated market value decline to €30m.
