The transfer window has closed after a busy summer, so it’s time to roll up our sleeves and start talking about the actual footba… hold on! Chelsea have snagged another.

Just like earlier this year, when they waited for the end of the January window before announcing the future signings of Dario Essugo and Geovany Quenda, the Blues have announced a deal in advance. This time it’s one that’s been lined up for a while – Emanuel Emegha.

Chelsea swoop for BlueCo star before competition heats up

Emanuel Emegha to join Chelsea says Fabrizio Romano.

The Dutchman has been superb for our sister club Strasbourg, scoring 14 goals in 27 appearances in Ligue 1 last season, so there was no chance we were letting him leave the BlueCo family. As Fabrizio Romano said in his Tweet about the move, multiple Champions League and Premier League were keen, so it was in Chelsea’s interest to secure the deal before his price rose, even though they are effectively paying from one hand to another.

Even Romano doesn’t have a speculative price on this one, frustratingly. He’s valued at €25m by Transfermarkt, but we’d expect it’s closer to €40m, if not more. He will join summer signings Liam Delap and Joao Pedro as our striker options, with our previous first choice Nicolas Jackson now on loan to Bayern Munich and looking likely to leave permanently in the future.

Chelsea continue to benefit from multi-club model

This seems like a well put together deal – Emegha gets another year of playing every week in Strasbourg to develop his game, but Chelsea lock him in for next summer before his price goes up.

You can be sure we will be tracking his progress all season here at Chelsea News, seeing if he and Strasbourg can match their impressive performances from last year.
