Marseille centre-forward Elye Wahi (22) has joined Eintracht Frankfurt, both clubs have announced. The Bundesliga side were in the market for a striker following their €80m sale of Egypt international free-scoring sensation Omar Marmoush (25). L’Equipe reports that Eintracht and Marseille shook hands over a €26m transfer fee with includes a further €3m in performance-related add-ons. Wahi put pen to paper this Friday over a five-and-a-half-year deal with Frankfurt, tying him with Die Adler until 2030.
Wahi will therefore sign for a third club in the span of eighteen months. The Montpellier sensation initially joined Franck Haise’s Champions League-playing RC Lens in a €35m move. The France international failed to justify such an outlay, prompting Lens to recoup their losses as Marseille signed Wahi in a €30m switch. In the last six months, Wahi failed again to meet expectations under the tutelage of OM manager Roberto De Zerbi. Wahi has logged only three goals and one assist in 14 games, eventually losing his spot in the starting XI to Everton loanee Neal Maupay.
Wahi will wear the No. 17 jersey at Eintracht and will reunite with fellow France U21 international Hugo Ekitike. The latter also left a major Ligue 1 team – PSG – to join Frankfurt and kickstart his career.
