It was already known but it has now been confirmed: Gianluigi Donnarumma (26) has been left out of Paris Saint-Germain’s UEFA Super Cup squad to face Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

L’Équipe revealed that the Italian wouldn’t even be included in PSG’s squad for the fixture. It comes after weeks and months of contract extension talks, which ultimately ended in deadlock. With just one year remaining on Donnarumma’s deal at PSG, the decision was taken to replace him. Lucas Chevalier arrived in a €40m deal from Lille OSC over the weekend, and it has already been communicated to the former AC Milan goalkeeper that he would lose his No.1 spot. The message is therefore clear from PSG, who are looking to force the Italy international out of the club this summer, in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer next summer.

Donnarumma’s omission from the Super Cup squad, officialised on Tuesday morning, sends a clear message to the Italian and his entourage.
