Kyogo Furuhashi (30) has completed a permanent move to Birmingham City. He leaves Stade Rennais after just six months at the club.

Furuhashi was a target for Jorge Sampaoli, but the Argentine head coach was eventually dismissed a couple of days after the centre-forward joined on a two-and-a-half-year contract. His successor in the Roazhon Park dugout, Habib Beye, barely fielded Furuhashi. The Japanese international never scored for Les Rouge et Noir, and just six months after making the move to the Breton club, he was one of several players that they were looking to offload during the current transfer window.

Whilst the fee has not been disclosed, L’Équipe understands that Rennes will earn a little over €9m for Furuhashi. There are also bonuses included in the deal worth a little under €1m. The Japanese international has signed a three-year deal with Birmingham City, who will play in the EFL Championship next season.
