Serie A starts in a few days and Ruben Amorim got his fourth reinforcement of the summer: the exceptionally versatile Moreira, who was reportedly another direct request of the coach after Gonçalo Ramos.

Milan secured the deal for Moreira and agreed to pay Strasbourg €50 million plus bonuses and a percentage of a future resale. The transfer came as a surprise to many as there were no rumours or reports prior to the deal getting sealed.

The official announcement from the Diavolo reads:

“AC Milan today announced the signing of Diego Moreira from RC Strasbourg.

“The Belgian winger has signed a contract with the club until 30 June 2031 and will wear the number 22 shirt.

“Born in Liège on 6 August 2004, Diego Moreira came through the youth academies of Standard Liège and Benfica, where he completed his development before breaking into professional football. With the Lisbon club, he made a name for himself at youth level, helping the Under-19s win the UEFA Youth League in the 2021/22 season before lifting the Under-20 Intercontinental Cup just a few months later. The following campaign, he also made his UEFA Champions League debut, featuring in the qualifying rounds of the 2022/23 edition.

“In the summer of 2023, he joined Chelsea, making his first-team debut on 30 August in a Carabao Cup tie against Wimbledon.

During the 2023/24 season, he also represented Olympique Lyonnais before completing a permanent move to RC Strasbourg in the summer of 2024. In Alsace, he gradually established himself as one of the brightest young talents in French football, showcasing his pace, technical quality and tactical versatility.

On the international stage, Diego Moreira represented Portugal at youth level right up to the Under-21s, including at the 2023 UEFA European Under-21 Championship. Since 2025, he has represented the Belgium senior national team, making his debut during the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup before featuring in the 2026 World Cup.

“AC Milan warmly welcomes Diego and wishes him every success, both individually and with the team, in the Rossoneri shirt.”
