Ligue 1 side Toulouse have confirmed the appointment of Jens Berthel Askou as Carles Martinez Novell’s successor. The Dane has left Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell to pursue his career in France. The 43-year-old head coach has led Motherwell to a fourth-place finish in the league.

Toulouse were in the market for Martinez Novell’s replacement as the Spaniard left upon the expiry of his contract. He’s strongly linked to a move back to his native country. Departing FC Lorient head coach Olivier Pantaloni was touted as a potential successor, but Toulouse moved swiftly to sign Jens Berthel Askou.

“I see a bright future ahead of us following the fantastic work done by Carles Martinez Novell to establish the club in a very strong position in Ligue 1, and I am convinced that we have a wonderful opportunity to aim even higher in the years to come“, the former centre-back said.
