Pointers as to availability for this Barcelona match.

Official Newcastle United injury update from Eddie Howe – 17 September 2025:

Yoane Wissa

Eddie Howe confirms that the striker will be out for at least the next six matches including Barcelona, due to a knee injury picked up on international duty. The NUFC Head Coach hoping Wissa will be able to return for Brighton away on Saturday 18 October:

“Yoane we hope, will be back after the next international break.

“That is the plan, that is Brighton.

“That can always change, it is always flexible.”

Jacob Ramsey

The former Villa player also remains out and won’t be back either until after the October international break, at the earliest.

Anthony Gordon

Eddie Howe confirmed that there are no injury or fitness issues with Gordon. He is suspended for Bournemouth on Sunday in the Premier League but can play against Barcelona in the Champions League. Anthony Gordon got some match time when away with England:

“He’s good.

“He is in my thoughts [for this Barcelona match].

“He is a next-level player and you can’t have enough of those, so we will look to utilise him.

“Whether we think that is from the start of the game…let’s wait and see.

“But I think he brings a pace to our forward line, a directness that you always need.

“I think it’s an important season for him and his career and we’re looking forward to helping him reach his very highest levels.”

Anthony Elanga

The signing from Forest only played the final ten minutes of the Wolves match but Eddie Howe confirmed that there are no injury or fitness issues with the player and he is available for this Barcelona match.. More a case of Anthony Elanga getting in tune with how Eddie Howe wants his players to train and play:

“He is going through a process where he is trying to understand everything that is required of him here.

“Which is very different to what was required of him at his former club, where he did really well last season, playing in a slightly different style.

“That acclimatisation will take a period of time but he is well on the way to doing that and I’m delighted with him.”
