Borussia Dortmund have announced that Nico Schlotterbeck's contract has been extended from 2027 until 2031.

“The contract extension with Nico Schlotterbeck is of enormous importance. He is of great value to us, both as a player and as a person. And Nico, in turn, also knows exactly what he has at our club," said Borussia Dortmund CEO Carsten Cramer.

"He is highly valued and can feel that we are building something here. That is why we are very happy that we were able to extend his contract, which was due to expire next year, at an early stage.”

Schlotterbeck, who has played for BVB since joining from Freiburg in 2022, commented:

“I am extremely happy to have extended my contract with BVB. I deliberately took my time because it was an important decision for me. We always had good discussions, but it was not a process that was completed after one or two weeks.

“The club’s officials showed me a good plan and I know what I have here. My goal is to win titles together with Borussia Dortmund,” he added.

Does Nico Schlotterbeck have a release clause?

According to Kicker, Borussia Dortmund have agreed to include a release clause of €50-60 million in the contract, which will only apply to a select number of clubs and become active as early as this summer.

It has previously been suggested that Schlotterbeck could earn up to €14 million per year, but Kicker reports that his actual salary will be closer to €10 million plus bonuses.
