The shake-up continues at Real Madrid as after the change of managers with the first-team setup, there will now be a new coach for Castilla as well.
Indeed, Real Madrid have today announced the departure of club legend Raul Gonzalez as he leaves Castilla after six years in charge.
“Real Madrid CF announces that Raul has informed the club of his decision to end his time as coach of our youth team,” the statement from the club read.
“It has been a source of pride for Real Madrid to have one of the greatest legends in our history and in world football as our coach and trainer of our youth system.
“Raul will always be in the hearts of all Real Madrid fans, and Real Madrid will always be his home.”
“Real Madrid wishes Raul and his family all the best in this new stage of his life,” the statement concluded.
Raul returned to Real Madrid as coach in 2018, managing the club’s Cadete B and Juvenil B teams. The following year, the former striker was handed the reins of the Castilla team.
The 47-year-old played a key role in the development of young talents within the club and had previously turned down approaches from clubs in hope of getting the first-team job at the Santiago Bernabeu.
However, with Xabi Alonso taking over the reins following Ancelotti’s exit, Raul has decided to move on from Real Madrid. Alvaro Arbeloa, currently the Juvenil A coach, is expected to take over as the new Castilla manager.
