Real Madrid booked their place in the semifinal of the FIFA Club World Cup after a nerve-wrrenching 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund.
In what was a rematch of the 2024 Champions League final, Real Madrid faced intense late pressure from Dortmund, with Los Blancos relying on a late strike from Kylian Mbappe to seal the victory.
Needless to say, Mbappe was one of the top performers on the night even though the Frenchman wasn’t actually handed a start by coach Xabi Alonso.
Another top performer on the night was Arda Guler, who continues his stellar performances under the leadership of Alonso.
In light of their performances against Dortmund, both Mbappe and Guler have been included in FIFA Club World Cup’s Team of the Week.
This is quite the achievement, especially for Mbappe who was struggling with a serious illness ever since landing in the United States.

Guler’s prospects, too, will be heavily lifted by this achievement as the Turk looks to continue his brilliant performances.
Guler’s form, in fact, has seen Alonso prefer the Turkish international ahead of Rodrygo, who is facing an uncertain future at the club.
If he can continue his top performances during the remainder of the competition, Guler can make a strong case for becoming a key cog in Alonso’s creative setup next season.
As for Mbappe, the Frenchman will be eyeing for a start against his former team as Real Madrid take on Paris Saint-Germain in the semifinals.
Apart from Mbappe and Guler, the team of the week also features Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and PSG’s Desire Doue. It also features former Real Madrid defender Achraf Hakimi.
