Milan have officially announced that Sergio Navarro Barquero has been appointed as head coach of the club’s Futuro side ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Milan Futuro are onto their third head coach since the side’s inception at the beginning of the 2024-25 season. Daniele Bonera was the first man to take the role, but was dismissed in February of 2025 with the well on their way to relegation from Serie C in their first season.

Massimo Oddo took charge a day later and stayed on for the 2025-26 season, but left his post on June 30 and has since been appointed by Spaniard Navarro.

The 26-year-old is a former left-back who played in the lower Spanish divisions after representing Villarreal as a youngster and has since held coaching positions with Castellon’s youth sides, Rubin Kazan as an assistant, Karpaty Lviv in Ukraine, Levante and Athletic Bilbao as an assistant and most recently with Debrecen in the Hungarian top flight.

“AC Milan is pleased to announce the appointment of Sergio Navarro Barquero as Head Coach of Milan Futuro,” read a statement on the club website.

“Appointing Sergio represents the ideal blend of qualities we were looking for: a Coach who already understands the demands of professional football and who, above all, has focused on developing young talent in one of Europe’s leading football environments,” said Milan’s sport development director, Jovan Kirovski.

“We believe these qualities make him the ideal person to help shape our project, whose primary objective is to develop and maximise talent.”
