Werder Bremen have officially completed the loan signing of Moussa Ndiaye from RSC Anderlecht, continuing an aggressive deadline-day overhaul of Daniel Thioune’s defensive flanks. The 24-year-old Senegalese left-back joins for the entirety of the 2026/27 campaign. Werder have also secured an option to purchase Ndiaye permanently next summer.

His arrival gives Thioune another solution for two positions that, entering the season, were among the largest question marks in the squad. Ndiaye arrives primarily to compete with Olivier Deman at left-back, but can also serve in central defense.

Ndiaye returns after helping Schalke win promotion

Ndiaye spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke 04 and made 14 appearances as the Royal Blues secured promotion back to the Bundesliga. That successful spell removes at least one element of uncertainty from the transfer. The Senegalese defender already knows the demands of German football and arrives with experience operating under pressure during a promotion race.

Ndiaye’s background is nevertheless considerably broader. Before joining Anderlecht in 2022, the defender spent time in Barcelona’s academy after moving into the Catalan club’s U19 setup in 2020. He has subsequently developed into a flexible defensive option capable of covering both left-back and central defense.

“Moussa is a technically good and energetic full-back who has already gained experience in German football,” Werder head of professional football Peter Niemeyer said. “He gives us another option on the left side of defense and can also be deployed as a center-back. We are convinced that he will noticeably strengthen our squad.”

Head coach Daniel Thioune also emphasized the qualities that made Ndiaye attractive.

“Moussa fits our profile exactly: strong in the challenge, capable of contributing offensively and with a good balance between providing cover and pushing forward,” Thioune said. “He has already shown that he can succeed in Germany and will give us greater variety on the left side.”
