Former Rangers defender James Tavernier is attracting clubs in Ligue 1 after leaving Ibrox, according to Foot Mercato.

The Englishman spent 11 seasons with the Bears, winning one Scottish Premiership title, one Scottish Cup and one Scottish League Cup.

Tavernier is currently a free agent and the Rangers hero is on the radar of OGC Nice and Paris FC.

The 34-year-old is interested in playing in France having spent the whole of his career in the United Kingdom.

He has also been linked with a return to England, but it appears the former Light Blues star will be moving to Ligue 1.

He notched 144 goals and provided 148 assists in 565 games for Rangers, and new Bears manager Derek McInnes could do with such a player in his defence.

The Gers started 2026-27 with a 1-1 draw at Dundee United on Friday night.

They are back in action on Thursday when they visit Poland to take on Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first-leg of their Europa League third-qualifying round tie.

Rangers host Hibernian in their first league game at home next Sunday and will be desperate to pick up all three points.

They were woeful across all competitions last term and will need significant improvement to impress this season.

They have signed Dan Neil, Ivan Pandur, Ben Godfrey, Lawrence Shankland, Ross McCrorie, Cammy Devlin, Vanja Dragojevic and Olwethu Makhanya so far this summer.

McInnes is expecting more additions and the new boss could do with them sooner rather than later.
