FC Bayern are pressing ahead with their squad planning for the summer – and have once again set their sights on a familiar target. Anthony Gordon is currently regarded as the ideal solution for the left wing-back position, but Munich’s interest in the England international is by no means new
In fact, Bayern have been interested in the attacking player for years. According to the Daily Mail, Munich were reportedly keeping an eye on him back in 2018, when Gordon was still playing for Everton FC’s U18s. At the time, the winger was just 17 years old and was considered one of England’s most promising talents
However, a transfer did not materialize at the time, as Everton’s coach at the time, Marco Silva, was clearly against his talent leaving and publicly emphasized that the club wanted to keep its best young players at all costs
Borussia Dortmund are also said to have shown interest at the time, but Gordon decided to stay in England. It was not until years later that the next big step followed: he finally moved to Newcastle United in 2023 – where he developed into one of the most exciting wingers in the Premier League

Seven years later, a new opportunity now appears to have arisen for FC Bayern. According to consistent reports, the Munich club have firmed up their interest and have already held initial talks with the player
These are said to have been positive and Gordon is also said to be open to a move, a decisive factor that could play into Bayern’s hands in the transfer poker
There is also movement on the club side. According to the BBC, Newcastle United are said to be prepared in principle to consider offers for selected players – not least due to financial conditions. Gordon is therefore part of this group
Despite the promising starting position, the biggest hurdle remains the transfer fee, with Newcastle demanding around 80 million pounds, the equivalent of around 90 million euros
This price is well above Bayern’s internal pain threshold, which according to reports is around 60 million euros. An agreement is therefore only likely to be realistic via flexible models with bonus payments or performance-related components
One thing is clear: the transfer poker for Gordon is picking up speed. Bayern are interested, the player is open – and Newcastle are at least signaling their willingness to talk.
