When FC Bayern meet Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-final, one duel in particular will come into focus: Michael Olise versus Ousmane Dembélé. Two world-class players, two different profiles – and a multitude of figures that impressively demonstrate their strengths and differences
Olise is the creative focal point on the right wing at FC Bayern, while Dembélé is flexible between the wing and the center at PSG. Both shape their teams‘ attacking play – but in completely different ways
The bare figures initially show a clear advantage for the Bayern star. In 45 competitive matches, Michael Olise has an outstanding 25 assists – the best figure in Europe’s top five leagues. He has a total of 43 goals to his name, only Kylian Mbappé with 46 and Harry Kane with 58 are higher
Dembélé cannot quite keep up in terms of absolute scoring figures, but is much more efficient. The PSG star only needs 114 minutes per goal and just 73 minutes per assist, compared to Olise’s 196 minutes per goal and 82 minutes per assist
Dembélé is also slightly ahead in terms of shots on goal, with 4.0 shots per 90 minutes compared to 3.8 for Olise. The expected goals figure is similar: 0.61 xG per 90 minutes for Dembélé compared to 0.43 for Olise

There is a clear difference in the game against the ball. Olise has a much higher defensive intensity. With 4.6 defensive actions per 90 minutes, he is clearly ahead of Dembélé, who only scores 1.8
The Bayern star is also slightly ahead when it comes to winning the ball in the final third: 0.92 per 90 minutes compared to 0.89 for Dembélé. Olise is also ahead in tackles with a rate of 50% – Dembélé has a rate of 48%
In dribbling, the picture is interesting: Olise looks for the one-on-one much more often and has 5.8 dribbles per 90 minutes. Dembélé is more reserved here with 2.7 attempts, but is much more efficient: 55% success rate compared to 45% for Olise
These figures underline the different types of player. Olise is the more active, versatile attacking player who also contributes defensively and controls the game, while Dembélé is the more efficient finisher who generates maximum impact with fewer actions
In the end, this difference could be decisive. Olise creates games – Dembélé decides them. And the semi-final between FC Bayern and PSG will show which approach has the greater influence.
