Nottingham Forest have appointed Oliver Glasner as head coach after the surprise dismissal of Vitor Pereira. The Austrian arrives with a recent record of silverware at Crystal Palace.

According to Nottingham Post, Pereira learned of his exit via an email at 11.58pm on 30 June, when a June break clause allowed either party to end his deal. The 57-year-old, hired in February on an 18-month contract, had been planning a Portugal camp with friendlies against Blackburn Rovers, Vitoria Guimaraes and Sporting Lisbon, plus an Italy tournament featuring Barcelona and Udinese.

Pereira thanked everyone at Forest in a farewell message, saying he left with respect and gratitude. He lifted the mood, ensured Premier League safety with two games to spare and reached the Europa League semi-finals before injuries told against Aston Villa.

Evangelos Marinakis’s 2025 line about always winning resurfaced as Palace marked Glasner’s departure with a post showing his three trophies. Fans revived the theme as the Austrian headed to the City Ground.

Glasner delivered the FA Cup against Manchester City in 2025, then beat Liverpool for the Community Shield and overcame Rayo Vallecano in last month’s Conference League final. His stock is high after previous spells with Eintracht Frankfurt, Wolfsburg, LASK and Ried.

After a chaotic season that saw Forest use four managers, his brief is clear, win and bring stability. He will get a full pre-season with a squad planned by his predecessor and input on recruitment, with no summer signings yet.
