Oliver Glasner used his Nottingham Forest unveiling to set out ambition, emphasise stability and talk about finding the right ingredients for success. According to NY Times, the 51-year-old, who left Crystal Palace at the end of last season, is the latest in a run of appointments since September last year.
He said several clubs approached him, but Forest’s vision and his research, including a dinner with owner Evangelos Marinakis in Athens, convinced him. Glasner described Marinakis as even more ambitious than himself and said their shared drive would challenge each other.
He arrives with a record that explains Forest’s ruthlessness in making the change from Vitor Pereira, having delivered Palace the FA Cup and the Conference League. He accepted the move might not be welcomed in south London after last season’s multi-club ownership fallout that sent Palace to the Conference League while Forest took a Europa League spot.
Mindful of Forest’s coaching churn, he noted the average managerial tenure is now below one year and that change happens. He added that he and the owner have committed to a three-year contract, aiming for stability and consistency as the base for success.
Tactically, he said he is not tied to a back three, though his mentality and non-negotiables will not shift. He expects one or two new ingredients before next week’s Portugal camp, with Xaver Schlager set to sign on a free and a move for Tottenham’s Sweden international Lucas Bergvall ongoing.
