Ollie Bainbridge among three South Shields picks in National League North team of the season | OneFootball

Three South Shields players have been named in the National League North team of the season, including on-loan Sunderland left-back Ollie Bainbridge.

Sunderland Echo reports this comes at the end of a largely positive first campaign under former Gateshead and MK Dons assistant Ian Watson. Shields were edged by AFC Fylde on the final day, then lost the play-off final 2-0 to Kidderminster Harriers at the 1st Cloud Arena.

The official selection also features captain Robbie Tinkler and 30-goal striker Paul Blackett. Bainbridge made more than 40 appearances, helping Shields reach the FA Cup first round and push hard for promotion.

Earlier this month Watson said he wants Bainbridge permanently as the Academy of Light graduate nears the end of his Sunderland contract. He said Bainbridge will leave Sunderland and have options this summer, and expects competition for his signature.

Watson added that Shields value the youngster highly and will try to persuade him to stay. He believes they can develop the defender further.
