The most striking aspect of André Luiz’s expected transfer is not simply the fee. It is the speed with which Olympiacos have converted a recent acquisition into a major outgoing transaction.

Gazzetta, citing the latest Brazilian information, reports that Sporting Kansas City will pay €16 million initially, with an additional €3.5 million paid in performance-related add-ons. André Luiz will sign for five years, bringing to an end negotiations reported to have lasted around two months. According to other reports, Olympiacos also retain a 20% resale value.

That structure is different from the €24 million package discussed earlier. The previous figure appeared to represent an ambitious maximum value whose guaranteed portion and bonus conditions were unclear. The latest report provides a more realistic division between fixed money and bonuses.

For Olympiacos, €16 million guaranteed still represents an exceptional return on a player acquired only in January. Even after accounting for the original purchase price, intermediary costs and any contractual obligations, the club should record a substantial trading profit.

The sporting department must now ensure that the financial success does not create an attacking weakness.

André Luiz offered physical power, direct running and positional versatility across the forward line. He had not yet become indispensable, but his departure reduces the number of wide players available to José Luis Mendilibar immediately before Champions League qualification.

Olympiacos therefore face two connected decisions.

First, how much of the fee should be reinvested directly into another winger? The club could seek a younger replacement with similar upside, or use the proceeds to strengthen more urgent positions—particularly goalkeeper and central midfield.

Second, does the current squad already contain enough internal cover? Joel Roca’s arrival gives Mendilibar another wide option, while established attackers can absorb minutes. But the demands of domestic and European competition make relying on a narrow rotation risky.

There is also a roster-management benefit. Gazzetta notes that André Luiz does not hold an EU passport. His exit creates greater flexibility for Olympiacos when pursuing players such as Yacine Titraoui or other non-EU targets.

From Kansas City’s perspective, the deal would rank among the largest acquisitions in MLS history. That creates pressure, but it also reflects a willingness to pay for a player in his prime rather than an older name approaching the end of his career.

Neither Olympiacos nor Sporting Kansas City had published an official announcement as of yet.

Nevertheless, André Luiz is no longer simply the subject of an expected offer. He is now reported as sold.
