Olympique de Marseille have been hit with a suspended ban from European competition and a 10 million euro fine for breaching financial fair play rules, yet they keep their place in next season’s Europa League.

UEFA confirmed that Marseille failed to meet the final target in their 2022 settlement agreement, which required specific football earnings across 2023-2025, while factoring in the sharp and unexpected collapse of domestic broadcast income affecting French clubs.

The First Chamber of the Club Financial Control Body imposed a conditional exclusion from the next UEFA competition the club would otherwise qualify for in any of the next three seasons unless it hits the football earnings goal for 2026-27.

It also restricted the registration of new players on UEFA List A for 2026-27 and issued a 6 million euro fine.

A separate breach of the squad cost rule, with a staff-cost ratio above 70 percent in 2025, brought an additional 4 million euro penalty.

The 2022 pact required Marseille to move towards balance under financial fair play, including a cumulative deficit no higher than 60 million across three seasons and at least 55 million to be covered by the shareholder. Marseille now have one year to correct course or face automatic exclusion in 2027-28 or later, depending on when they next qualify.
