Following a sudden schedule shake-up, OM cancels its training camp in Rome
OM cancels its training camp in Rome
Olympique de Marseille’s plans were thrown into disarray on the eve of their showdown against Paris Saint-Germain. Originally, the Marseille squad was set to fly to Rome for a training camp that would combine group sessions, tactical workshops, and team-building activities. But the rescheduling of the OM–PSG match—now set for Monday at 8 p.m. instead of Sunday night—completely disrupted this plan. To make matters worse, particularly unstable weather in Marseille ultimately convinced the club’s management to call off the trip for good.
In its official statement, the club explained: “While a Marseille delegation was initially due to travel to Rome this morning for a camp combining training, group workshops, and team bonding, the postponement of the OM–PSG match has forced Olympique de Marseille to cancel the trip. (…) With weather conditions still unstable and no guarantee of being able to travel after the match, the club has decided to definitively call off the training camp.”
This decision only adds to the sporting challenges facing Roberto De Zerbi’s side at the start of the season. After four Ligue 1 matchdays, OM sit eighth with 6 points (two wins and two losses). Meanwhile, PSG are leading the league, alongside Lyon, Monaco, and Strasbourg—all on 12 points. The Parisians, however, have played one match fewer—the very one against Marseille, now scheduled for Monday night.
This setback robs OM of a valuable opportunity to strengthen squad unity, just as the clash with the French champions looms as a decisive moment to kickstart an inconsistent campaign. Now, De Zerbi and his men will have to contend with a disrupted preparation and rely on their collective strength to make their mark in this ever-anticipated Clasico.
