Toulouse knocked Marseille out of the Coupe de France quarter-finals, drawing 2-2 then winning 4-3 on penalties, with goalkeeper Kjetil Haug outstanding. Himad Abdelli endured a night to forget for OM.
According to L'Équipe, Haug saved Leonardo Balerdi’s kick in the shoot-out and frustrated Marseille in open play, while Abdelli, on his first start, struggled and was replaced at half-time by Ethan Nwaneri, who later struck the post and missed the final kick.
Mason Greenwood won a penalty inside 30 seconds and converted on two minutes. Toulouse levelled on 13 minutes, with Geronimo Rulli unconvincing for the goal before improving after the interval.
On 51 minutes Rulli made two saves in quick succession from Emersonn and Rasmus Nicolaisen. Kondogbia then switched play for Paixao to curl home for 2-1 on 56 minutes.
Cresswell made it 2-2 on 60 minutes, catching out Balerdi. Greenwood slalomed on 66, Nwaneri hit the upright, and Paixao saw a centre deflected on to the bar before clearing off his own line on 87.
In the shoot-out, Greenwood and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored for OM. Rulli saved Cristian Casseres’s attempt, yet Toulouse advanced 4-3 after Balerdi’s miss and Nwaneri’s final effort was saved.
